ABOUT US
The Human Cellular Neurophysiology Laboratory is studying patterns of brain neuronal activity in patients with movement disorders, i.e., Parkinson's disease and dystonia.

Patients are undergoing neurosurgical procedure for implanting deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrodes in the basal ganglia nuclei. These operations not only significantly alleviate the clinical symptoms of movement disorders, but also provide unique opportunity to record the neural activity of the subcortical nuclei in the human brain.
Analysis of neural data helps to clarify fundamental questions concerning the organization of motor control in the basal ganglia system, as well as to lay the foundations for an individualized approaches in adjusting the stimulation parameters for DBS in the subcortical nuclei, on which the clinical effectiveness of neurosurgical intervention ultimately depends.

METHODS
Microelectrode registration of human brain single untis during routine stereotactic neurosurgeries aimed to implant electrodes for deep brain stimulation (DBS). The operations are performed under local anesthesia. During the study patients are assigned with a set of functional tests. Simultaneously with microelectrode registration, EMG signals from different muscles and phonogram of verbal commands are also recorded.
Postoperative multichannel recordings of local field potentials (LFP) of subcortical brain structures in patients with motor disorders with simultaneous recording of EEG and EMG signals and phonogram of verbal commands assigning various functional tests.
